Mentorship |
Jane Gayou Sportiello, JD |
Dr. David Tamisiea, JD, PhD |
This semester I had the pleasure of working with Jane Sportiello who is a licensed attorney in Bismarck. She received her undergraduate degree at Notre Dame and she recieved her JD at St. Louis University School of Law. Jane has a myriad of past positions and experiences in law and is currently working as a law clerk for the Magistrate Judge Clare R. Hochhalter. During my time with Jane, she answered many of my questions about law school and what daily life as a lawyer actually looks like. Because of this mentorship, I got to sit in on a sentencing and hearing and I also got to meet and talk with the judge she works for. I am very thankful to have made a professional connection with someone of her skill in the community and the knowledge I have gained from this experience has given me confidence to pursue law further.

The faculty mentor that I worked with this semester is Dr. Tamisiea. Dr. David Tamisiea is the Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences at the University of Mary. He received his J.D. from University of Texas School of Law and his Ph.D. in Theology from Ave Maria University. After taking one of his courses freshman year, I was very interested in his career path and I was inspired by his tenacity. It was such an honor working with him this semester. During this mentorship program, he led me through the basics of law school, what to expect, and helped me narrow down what my interests and focus should be moving forward. He has great insight in pursuing law in light of the Catholic faith and he has been such a great resource for me in furthering my career in law.
